1. Always Floss
You may have been advised to always brush your teeth 2 times a day for strong and healthy teeth. However, this is not always enough, as it might fail to remove all the food remains from the mouth or prevent plaque buildup on the teeth. This is why you should make flossing one of your new year’s resolutions. So that you don’t forget to floss, keep your floss container next to your toothbrush and toothpaste, and you won’t miss it. You can also carry another container in your purse or put one in your school locker or office cabinet, just in case you forget to floss while at home.
2. Eat Mouth-Healthy Foods Often
It is always advisable to eat healthy foods. By so doing, the benefits of such foods to your teeth will start to show. Delta Dental’s findings also show that fibrous foods that cause the production of more saliva in the mouth help to remove foods and plaque away from your teeth. 3. Cut Back on Sugar
According to BMC Public Health, the amount of decay to your teeth and the sugar you consume are directly related. If you reduce your consumption of sugars, the risk of tooth decay will reduce considerably. To reduce your sugar intake, you have to buy less of the sugary things you are into. Always go for sugar-free drinks, chewing gum, and even chocolate bars. To achieve your resolutions, you have to be willing to get out of your comfort zone.
4. Visit a Dentist
It is advisable to visit the dentist at least once every year. However, most people don’t do this. If one way to keep your oral health in check is to visit a specialist on the same, why not go to them? You may be one of the many people who are afraid of visiting the dentist, but as long as it is for your own health’s good, be bold and visit them often. The ADA says that you should know it’s time to see your dentist when your teeth are sensitive or when your gums show signs of bleeding. Even when you feel like you are perfectly fine, it is good to see the dentist. Some conditions may not be visible to or detected by anyone other than a dentist. So don’t wait for the signs to show. Remember that prevention is better than cure, and the sooner you get checked the safer you’ll be.
5. Kick the Addiction
Reports from the CDC states that smoking can double your chances of getting gum disease. It is also associated with many other health problems including lung infections. All you have to do is decide to never smoke again. Just pick a date and before you get there, make sure to throw away anything that can tempt you into going back to the habit. Because the cravings don’t just disappear, it’s advisable to look for activities to engage in that will distract you completely.
